United Insulation's entire range of glass wool products has passed the precise thermal conductivity certification of SGS. Measured λ values are as low as 0.034 W/(m·K), ranking its thermal performance among the top in the world

2022-09-01

August 25, 2022, China – United Insulation, an international exporter of high-end thermal insulation materials, officially announced that its entire range of glass wool products has passed the precise thermal conductivity testing conducted by SGS, the world's most authoritative third-party organization. According to three major international standards, including ASTM C518, EN 12667, and ISO 8301, this testing has been performed. Measured thermal conductivity is between 0.034 and 0.042 W/(m·K) consistently. All test reports are issued from the Swiss headquarters of SGS and have been entered into the global official database.

What is SGS thermal conductivity certification?

Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, SGS is recognized as the global leader in inspection and certification. In nearly all developed markets, including Europe, North America, Australia, the Middle East, and ASEAN, its thermal conductivity reports are directly regarded as legally binding technical documents equivalent to national metrology institutes' conclusions.

How rigorous is thermal conductivity testing at SGS?

The testing uses the most rigorous international method: the Guarded Hot Plate method.

Constant temperature and humidity laboratory: 23±0.5℃, 50±2%RH

Dual specimens, bidirectional temperature measurement to eliminate edge heat flow loss

Repeated verification with 10 batches of different thicknesses and densities

The measurement error should be ≤1.5% (most industrial standards allow for 3–5%).

Only SGS-issued thermal conductivity reports for the European and American markets are allowed to declare λD officially on the labels and to be used in building energy efficiency calculation software.

Why is the SGS thermal conductivity report the "must-have" certification in the global high-end market?

Europe: All glass wool should provide a λD report from an accredited laboratory according to EU CPR Regulation EN 13162, and SGS reports could directly be used in CE DoP documents.

North America: SGS/Intertek thermal conductivity reports are required under North American US ASHRAE 90.1 and Canadian NRCan energy efficiency standards for insulation materials.

Australia: The NCC building codes require all imported glass wool to include an SGS λ value report that conforms to AS/NZS 4859.1.

Middle East: Newly promulgated Dubai DM, Saudi SASO, and Qatar GSO all require λ ≤ 0.040 and request an SGS report for customs clearance.

Southeast Asia: All Singapore Green Mark and Malaysia GBI high-scoring projects require third-party λ-value reports.

By 2025, over 90% of the tender documents for glass wool will clearly state, "Must provide an SGS thermal conductivity test report." In other words, without this report, the bidding will be disqualified on the spot.

How robust are the data measured for United Insulation glass wool?

Some Key SGS test results:

Declared thermal conductivity λD (23℃, 50%RH): 0.034–0.036 W/(m·K)

λ value increase after 90 days of aging: <0.001 W/(m·K) (industry average increase: 0.003–0.005)

All the batches of all densities and thicknesses passed the test at the first attempt. The density range is 12 – 32 kg/m³ and the thickness range 50 – 80 mm.

In other words, United Insulation glass wool truly stands among the top 5% in the world for thermal insulation performance and saves 5–12% more energy compared with ordinary glass wool of the same thickness.

As the Technical Director of United Insulation says, "The SGS thermal conductivity report is not just a simple number; it's our commitment to being permanently responsible for our customers' building energy consumption." With United Insulation glass wool, that means the lowest actual operating electricity costs, the easiest energy efficiency certification, and the highest green building score.

Now, glass wool with SGS thermal conductivity reports is being exported in stable batches to Germany, France, the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and other countries and regions, fully meeting the most stringent building energy efficiency regulations of these areas.
